Worldwide, the coronavirus has spread quickly. Currently, the handling and safety of food is of utmost importance. As of right now, there is no proof that food can spread the coronavirus. To keep your food safe and germ-free, there are a few precautions and general rules you can follow.
- Wash your hands to make sure they are clean before washing fruits and vegetables. Fruit and vegetables should be washed for at least 20 seconds before cleaning.
- Before preparing or eating, cut away any areas that have been damaged or bruised if they appear before eating or handling.
- Rinse your produce thoroughly under running water, then rub it with your hands. Before peeling, rinse it to prevent contamination of the fruit or vegetable with dirt or bacteria from the knife.
- Do not use any detergent or soap: Rub gently while holding under a faucet with hot water. The use of soap is not necessary.
- Brush/Scrub: To scrub fruits or vegetables, use a fresh vegetable brush.
- Dry with a clean cloth or paper towel to further reduce any bacteria that might be present.
